At a recent ceremony that recognized young children in their careers, one little boy used all his strength to hug Prince Harry. Five-year-old Ollie Carroll used everything he had to get up and hug the prince. The boy suffers from a condition known as Batten disease, which is an extremely rare and fatal autosomal recessive neurodegenerative disorder that begins in childhood. The disease is caused by genetic mutations which in turn causes lipofuscins that accumulate within the body’s tissues. Affected children suffer mental impairment, worsening seizures, and progressive loss of sight, speech and motor skills over time. Eventually, children with Batten disease become blind, bedridden, suffering from dementia and die. Batten disease is a terminal disease and the life expectancy varies depending on the type or variation.
Ollie, who was recognized as one of the children recognized at the WellChild Awards, used all of his strength to stand up and throw his arms around Prince Harry.

In the video below, you can watch as the young boy has his momentous moment…
Ollie’s mother is seated behind him as Prince Harry bends down to hug the boy. She assists him as she starts to walk over to the prince and you can clearly see the struggle in his eyes. Normally Ollie can’t even manage to stand up on his own, but he is so determined that he makes his way across the floor in a couple of steps. The look on little Ollie’s face is priceless and you can see that this is something he wants so badly.
As the video goes on, you can see Prince Harry mingling with several other children in addition to Ollie and they all seem so awestruck. It makes us really learn to appreciate the little things in life, life being able to walk freely from one place to the next and having a healthy family. Little Ollie, who is in so much pain, shows us that all it takes in the little things in life to lighten up a mood. We take advantage of simple things like having the capability to move our muscles and get a drink of water on our own.
The majority of those who viewed the heartwarming video agree that the moment is one that will be remembered by this little boy forever…
Commenters also shared their thoughts on how the moment is something that Harry’s mom would be proud of and something that she would do herself.
While the moment may not have taken a lot on Prince Harry’s part, the fact that he was there and took the time to spend with the kids is one that they will remember forever. And all it takes is one little moment to make a major impact on someone’s life. And we can assume that little Ollie’s mom is just as happy, as she got to witness something that she hadn’t seen in a long time…her son walking and exerting strength. While the future looks bleak for this little boy, he and his mom will always have this moment.
