A sheriff’s deputy was sent to a 7-year-old boy’s house after he was found to be sharing notes with other students during lunchtime. A California Public School teacher apparently noticed the notes and called police because of what was written on them. The notes inside the boy’s lunchbox were Bible verses from his mother, according to Go Tumble. Now the school is accused of violating the boy’s First Amendment rights.
Apparently, the boy was reading the Bible verses to his friends who asked the boy if they could have copies of what he was reading. So the boy’s mother, Christina Zavala, gave him additional notes for his friends. The teacher called Zavala and said he could no longer pass out the verses at school for reasons of a “separation of church and state.”

The child was told he could only pass out Bible notes after school by the school’s gate. So a group of about 15 kids began meeting at the gate after school. The principal then asked the boy’s father that his child no longer pass out notes on school property. They then moved to a public sidewalk, and that’s when the cops visited the Zavala household.
Now the Liberty Counsel, a Christian and nonprofit litigation group, is considering suing the school for “an outrageous violation of a first grader’s constitutional rights.”
