Man spends free time driving around town, looks for stranded motorists he can help

Miguel Marrufo may work days as a regular mover, Miguel is not a regular person. This is because Miguel spends his free time at nights doing whatever he can to help any stranded motorists he may come across as he is driving. Specifically making drives out at night to find stranded drivers, Miguel hopes he can bring a little sense of community and brotherly love to the people around him.

“People who are broken down. If they need a jump. If they need a push in the middle of the road,” Miguel said.

For Miguel, he feels that giving a person a little bit of help can really be valued and appreciated in a big way. What better time is their for an unnamed hero to come in and save the day than when a person is stuck at night with a broken down vehicle.

“I get on San Antonio highways and drive around 90, 1604, 151, everywhere,” he said. “If I see anyone with the hood open, even if it’s a fender-bender and they need a tow, I’ll pull over and put my emergency lights on,” Miguel explained.

Miguel, who is thirty eight years old, drives a metallic green truck plastered in decals that show what Miguel can offer to stranded motorists. Trying to show that he is simply around to offer a helping hand, some decals seen on the trucks include: roadside assistance, jump starts, towing referrals, tire changes, and many many more.

Miguel began his heroic crusade when a man was hit and killed by a large eighteen wheel trucks just a couple weeks back. Heartbroken after hearing this news, Miguel decided he could use his expertise to try and prevent stranded drivers from experiencing the same fate when their vehicles break down on the side of the road. Being a father of four children, Miguel has the caring and nurturing nature that a selfless job such as this one would definitely require.

“It makes me feel great. I’m blessed with their blessings…I don’t ask for anything. Just blessings or donations, like $5 or whatever they give me, it just goes to the next person,” said Miguel.

Katherine Martinez, a local who had learned of Miguel’s incredibly kind acts, nominated him for a Cash For Kindness program through Fox San Antonio that would donate cash to a local hero who deserved it. Baiting Miguel to her location by calling him and asking for help with her broken down car, Miguel made his way to her location as he always does when he is called for help. When Miguel arrived, Katherine had quite the surprise prepared for him.

“Actually the car is fine. We called you here for another reason. If you can look over there,” Katherine said as she pointed to Ryan Wolf, a reporter for Fox San Antonio.

Shocked and emotional, Miguel did not expect the thousand dollar cash prize, even though he truly deserved it.

“We can’t believe that you do this out of the kindness of your heart. You put yourself in jeopardy for complete strangers. Honestly, with everything going on in the news, I was in shock. You made everyone smile,” Katherine told Miguel.

In this situation, it was clear Miguel really deserved the reward that came to him. Sometimes, people do not do things for the rewards, but it is still important to reward the people doing exceptional work as a reminder that it is not unnoticed or unappreciated.
