Ingredients

  • 5 cupsall-purpose flour

  • 12 cupCrisco All-Vegetable Shortening

  • 1 cupgranulated sugar

  • 1 Tbsp.baking powder

  • 1 12 tsps.salt

  • 1 tsp.baking soda

  • 2 12 cupsraisins

  • 3 Tbsps.caraway seeds

  • 2 12 cupsbuttermilk

  • 2large eggs



Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350 ºF.

  • Whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and baking soda in a large bowl. Add Crisco All-Vegetable Shortening.

  • Stir in raisins and caraway seeds.

  • Whisk buttermilk and eggs in a medium bowl. Add to flour mixture. Using a wooden spoon, stir until dough is sticky.

  • Transfer dough to prepared skillet or pan. Using a small sharp knife dipped in flour, cut a 1-inch deep “X” in the center of the dough.

  • Bake one hour and 20 minutes, or until tester inserted into center comes out clean.

  • Cool for 10 minutes. Serve and enjoy!
