It seems that a 62-year-old widow who collapsed in her home has had her life saved due to the actions of her loud barking dog.
The woman apparently collapsed in the bathroom of her home. She lived all by herself, except for her two dogs Bella and Sammy.
Despite being semi-conscious, the ill woman was unable to move for several hours or even a couple of days, according to a police report.

Fortunately, neighbor Meg Verdigi’s daughter, Melanie and her friend Nicole Boyle, of Teaneck, went out to take a walk.

“My daughter heard Sammy bark and heard glass breaking,” Verdigi explained.
When Melanie approached the house, she saw blood on the broken window. She also heard Sammy barking the entire time.
“He never stopped barking,” Verdigi noted. “I think he has separation anxiety.”
Melanie decided she better call her mother.
“She said ‘I think the dog broke the window. And the dog is barking’,” Verdigi commented. “She asked should she call the police. I said, ‘Yes. Call the police’.”
The Northvale police officers used the broken window to reach around and unlock the front door.
The police found the female resident face down in the bathroom, “breathing with little verbal response,” based on the police report.
“Two dogs were located inside the home with no food or water in sight,” the report noted.
The woman was transported to the ICU of a local hospital.
“We believe that the dog inside the home heard the two women talking as they walked past,” Northvale Police Chief William Essmann commented. “The dog broke the glass with its paws in an attempt to get their attention, which led to their owner being rescued.”
