On the final stretch of his flight home from Chicago to Dallas, an exhausted traveler dozed off while seated next to a female stranger who was traveling alone. He hadn’t been out for too long when he sensed something amiss and woke up in shock at what the woman next to him was doing with her chest.
Evan Hughes’ day of travel wasn’t going well, and by the time he finally boarded the airplane and took off, he was beyond exhausted from all of the stress and took advantage of the travel time to power nap. Apparently, he wasn’t the only one who took advantage of the situation, since the woman in the seat next to him did as well while the guy’s eyes were closed. Hughes quietly snapped a photo with his cell phone of what he saw when she wasn’t looking, which has now gone viral.
The man had been traveling with his with his wife and young son, but he got separated from her due to weather and being put on different planes when their return flights had gotten rescheduled. Coordinating with the change in plans was stressful enough, only made worse by the fact that his 8-month-old child flying with him had missed several naps, and now the father was going to have to deal with the restless baby alone on a packed airplane of people with little patience.

According to the father’s photo post on Imgur, “This was only little man’s second flight ever… and he was going so well until he wanted to go see my neighbor in the window seat,” he explained of what had become “one of his worst days in a long time.” Hughes kept holding his kid back who kept fighting him to be with the woman who neither he or his son had ever seen before, but the little boy was apparently drawn to the stranger.

“After brief introductions and him fighting me trying to crawl over to her, she opens her arms and says, ‘Oh just give him to me!’” Hughes wrote in his post, taking her up on her kind offer and handing the baby to her. “Not 60 seconds later he puts his head down on her chest and falls asleep!”
With the baby fast asleep, the woman said he could nap too if he wanted while she cared for his child. In his extreme exhaustion, Hughes said he “selfishly” accepted the invitation to sleep, before waking up to a surprise.
The father dozed off and woke to his still silent child fast asleep on this woman’s chest as she smiled down upon him like he was her own son. Perhaps the baby sensed her loving warmth and saw familiarity in her being a mother and him wanting his.
This flight could have been an insult to a day of injury for this dad had he been seated next to an impatient passenger who didn’t appreciate a fussy baby disturbing their flight. Instead, he was in the right seat and so was this woman, who didn’t see this father and son as strangers, but saw it as an opportunity to help and love on a tired child and a desperate dad.
