A grieving set of parents from Maryland suffered through an unthinkable tragedy while in South Carolina. Their young children passed away as the result of a horrific crash on the highway, but both of the parents pulled through.
As WWMT reports, the badly-injured mother was transported to a hospital back in Maryland. That left the dad, Devin Harley, with the unenviable task of ensuring his children’s remains were returned home to them. He called Simplicity Lowcountry Cremation and Burial to make arrangements, and the stunned staff did whatever they could to get him through the impossible time.
“No matter what, it’s a tragedy. You’re going through the worst time of your life, you don’t need someone on the other side of the table that’s got dollar signs in their eyes,” says funeral director Darryl Young.

They covered the cost, and the local coroner stepped in to lend a hand as well. He would travel to Maryland at his own expense to ensure the remains made it into Harley’s hands.

“It was just something I wanted to do, if it was my family I would certainly hope that some dude would do the same for me,” said Colleton County Coroner Rich Harvey.
