DO YOU KNOW WHAT THIS LINE MEANS IF YOU SEE IT ON YOUR STREET? YOU'LL BE SEEING MORE SOON

A Long Island, New York woman has started a petition on Change.org, and so far has raised about 1,600 signatures. She’s hoping to make a difference to show police officers just how much they’re appreciated.

Dawn Kostakis of Massapequa wants to see blue between the two yellow lines on every street in her city. She thinks the local police deserve support, and this is a great way to show it.

“Let those who risk their lives to protect us know they are loved, appreciated and supported by the Long Island community,” Kostakis writes in the petition.

A message from the Public Works Nassau County says this can’t be done, no matter how good an idea it is. “Any deviation from federal guidelines jeopardizes receipt of our federal funding for roadway and construction projects, as New York State Parks is experiencing today because of their “New York State Experience / I Love NY” signing program on parkways.”

Kostakis’ plan might never come to fruition, but just the amount of signatures has to show Long Island men and women in blue how much they’re loved by their community.
