First Lady Michelle Obama has commented that she slept through Election Night, but it certainly sounds like she woke up feeling as if she had a nightmare. As ABC News reports, her well-publicized comments about ‘hope’ in the wake of the election has sparked a rebuke from President-elect Trump.
Michelle sat down for a lengthy interview with Oprah Winfrey, and the topic of course turned to this year’s election results. She contrasted her feelings with those of how she felt when her husband was elected and now, stating that “now we’re feeling what not having hope feels like.” She wasn’t done.
“What do you give your kids if you can’t give them hope?” she continued.

Never one to miss an opening, Trump spent some time on the comments at a stop on his ‘Thank You’ tour, saying that she “must have been talking about the past.”

He took the high road from that point, saying “she made that statement not meaning it the way it came out,” and also took the time to praise the graciousness of Michelle and president Obama when he visited the White House.
