A young mother noticed her son was developing a nasty rash and took her child to the doctor. The rash only got worse. When doctors finally figured out what it was, the mom remembered a terrible mistake.
Amy Stinton’s knew something was not right about her 14-month-old son’s rash. While many kids get rashes at that age, this one didn’t go away. It just got worse and worse. The rash spread, turned into bumps, then blisters, then open sores.
Doctors finally figured out what it was. Stinton’s son was diagnosed with herpes, and it’s something he’ll suffer with for the rest of his life.

That’s when Stinton remembered something. A relative had visited her son, and had a cold sore on her mouth. As so many people do, she kissed the baby, transmitting the herpes virus.

“This is what happens 2 babies when been in contact with a coldsore,” Stinton warns others, featuring a picture of her son’s outbreak. “Oliver now has the herpes virus and will have this for life. Think before you kiss a baby next time.”
A lot of parents might be laughed at or considered too overprotective if they asked people not to kiss the baby. However, Stinton is holding up her son as a clear warning of why we all need to be a little more cautious around babies. All it takes is one mistake, and the consequences can be devastating.
