Kobe Shaw was born with an underdeveloped brain, and his parents were told he would probably not see his fifth birthday. His parents were devastated, however, when he didn’t even see his first. Making matters worse, Kobe’s untimely death wasn’t necessary; a toxicology report pointed to homicide.
Tonya Monroe, Kobe’s grandmother, has fled and police are looking for her. Authorities suspect Monroe killed her grandson, Kobe, by giving the 9-month-old baby methamphetamines.
Hayden and Taylor Shaw moved in with Monroe, who is Taylor’s mother. Taylor was raised by her grandmother, but she thought her mother, a former meth addict, was clean. The couple moved into Monroe’s home with their baby. Knowing Kobe would have a short life, Taylor was hoping to make her mother part of her baby’s life.

“She had walked in, she walked over to his crib and she said, ‘He’s blue, Taylor, he’s blue!’” said the grieving mother to Alive 11.

Monroe then reportedly ran away screaming and has not been seen since.
After the toxicology report came back, homicide detectives broke the news to Hayden and Taylor. The baby was forcibly given meth.
“I could still have my son,” said Taylor. “We could have spent Mother’s Day with him, Father’s Day. And his birthday. His [first] birthday was May 31st.”
Hayden says of his mother-in-law, he hopes she’ll ‘rot in jail.’
