A hospital employee from Chicago has been using money out of her own pocket to make sure sick children have toys at Christmas for years.
Jessie Tendayi, a food service aide at Trinity Hospital in Chicago, has been working overtime and saving cash for toys at Christmas for eight years now.
“It brings joy to me, and also brings joy to the children, that I’m making a difference,” Tendayi noted in an interview with the media.

The toy giving spree began in Christmas 2009 with 100 toys, but Tendayi has continued to up the total every year.
For 2016, Tendayo spent $5,000 on 1,000 toys for children at Advocate Children’s Hospital in Oak Lawn, Illinois.

“It’s amazing that someone’s giving their time and effort to make sure children in the hospital have a great Christmas too,” one of the kids said.
One mother noted the extra toys for her bedridden son were a blessing.
“He doesn’t leave this room,” she explained. “For him to have more toys to play with and keep him happy while we’re here is incredibly helpful, humbling and amazing.”
Tendayi commented that her dream is to be able to donate presents all year long, to be able to boost the spirits of sick kids in hospitals 365 days a year.
