ROMNEY: TRUMP CAN LEAD US TO A BETTER FUTURE

Mitt Romney has changed his tune about Donald Trump, now that he wants to become secretary of state, Newsmax reported.

The former Massachusetts governor, who was the Republican presidential nominee in 2012, called Donald Trump a “phony” and a “fraud” during the 2016 campaign. This week, after the two men held a dinner meeting to discuss the State Department job, Romney lauded the president-elect as “the very man who can lead us to that better future.”

Romney told reporters that the dinner conversation was “enlightening; engaging.” He added: “I enjoyed it very much. I was impressed by the remarks (Trump) made on his victory night. By the way, it’s not easy to win. I know that myself. He did something that I’ve tried to do and was unsuccessful in accomplishing. He won the general election. And he continues with a message that brings people together, and his vision is something which obviously connected with the American people in a very powerful way.”

The appointments and nominations Trump has made so far for his cabinet and other high-level positions “are solid, effective capable people, some of them I know very well,” Romney commented. He said the “impressive individuals” include Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions, the attorney general nominee; South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, the next U.S. ambassador to the United Nations; and Rep. Tom Price, the nominee for Health and Human Services Department secretary.

“America’s best days are ahead of us,” Romney predicted. “I think you’re going to see America continuing to lead the world in this century.”
