A woman in California had not seen her son since he was 18 months old. The toddler was kidnapped from her, and she never knew his fate. Now, 22 years later, she was finally reunited with him.
Maria Mancia has not seen her son since his father kidnapped him and cross the border into Mexico. He brought all photos of the boy and all identification papers with him. Mancia filed police reports and tried searching, but leads always went cold at the border.
The pain she has had to deal with all that time is finally being healed because she has her son back. “I spent 21 years looking for him not knowing anything,” Mancia said.

Steve Hernandez, now 22 and a law student, thought his mother was dead. His father disappeared years ago, but had told him very little about his mother. He thought she was dead.

“I lived all these years without my mother, then to find out she’s alive in another country, it was emotional,” Hernandez said.
He was happy to learn he is an American citizen and that he has four younger brothers. After the tearful reunion with his mother, he decided he would not be returning to Mexico.
