The name Heinz is synonymous with ketchup, and the enormous company had some serious explaining to do after a video emerged on social media. As the Daily Mail reports, that video purported to show employees at one manufacturing facility using rotten tomatoes.
The video shows footage from a factory in Egypt. One scene clearly shows a man standing on top of a box of tomatoes before throwing the same tomatoes in a vat, and that’s sparked a whole round of conversation on the quality of the food the company produces.
The ketchup giant disagrees with the authenticity of what’s being portrayed in the video, and is essentially saying that there’s nothing to see here.

“The edited footage shows an unreal picture and neglects the processing stages, hence gives the wrong impression. It is important for everyone to know that we use only healthy tomatoes, all of which are processed using industry-best standards. As always, we remain 100 percent committed to the cleanliness and quality of our tomatoes and the safety of our consumers,” the statement reads in part.
