AFTER 14 YEARS ON WELFARE WOMAN THINK SHE’S ENTITLED, MAKE OUTRAGEOUS DEMAND

The story of Anna Broom, a 33-year-old UK woman who has been receiving government benefits for fourteen years and wants the government to pay for her wedding, has gone viral across the internet.

Broom is requesting almost $8000 to pay for her wedding. Her budget includes a designer dress, a champagne toast for her fifty guests, and a horse-drawn carriage ride to the ceremony to be held in a castle. Last but not least, Broom and her new hubby want the UK taxpayer to fork out another $1800 for the couple’s honeymoon.

Broom remarks: “I’ve dreamed about being a bride since I was 12-years-old. I deserve a fairy tale church wedding and a party in a castle, but there’s no way I could afford it on benefits and I can’t work because I’m overweight.”

Of note, Broom was diagnosed with depression and lower back problems at age 19, which have become aggravated weight gain from eating disorders over a number of years.

The idea that the typical welfare recipient is a lazy slob has been around for decades. While it has been debunked many times by state and federal agencies, universities, think tanks, and nonprofit organizations, it is still a common stereotype among many people.

Writer Terry Jeffrey has made the claims that ”109,631,000 Americans on welfare, outnumbering the ‘105,862,000 full-time year-round workers in the United States.”

However, this claim is really not accurate as Jeffrey is making an apples to oranges comparison.

First, his numbers include the elderly and children, who are not part of the workforce.

Second, Jeffrey defines “welfare” to include programs such as Women, Infants, and Children, or WIC, which is a food subsidy program specifically for minors, and Medicaid, which are far larger programs than Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF), which is a more traditional “welfare” plan.

Jeffrey also ignores the crucial fact that the majority of households that receive government benefits also work. Moreover, close to 40% of US full-time employees receive government assistance because they are paid so little.

It boils down to the fact there are millions of full-time workers who are not paid enough to meet their family’s needs.
