There were thousands of protesters from a variety of organizations close to the stadium before and during the New England Patriots and Atlanta Falcons Super Bowl on Sunday.
The various groups protesting at the Super Bowl include communists, socialists, the ACLU, LGBTQ, the Democratic party, Black Lives Matter and environmental groups.

At one point, a group marching for water and land rights for the Standing Rock reservation in South Dakota came together with members of anti-Trump march. Then, hundreds of people holding posters that read “I’d trade 1 Trump for 60,000 Muslims’’ and “Deport Trump Back to Outer Space’’ started a chant.

“We support Standing Rock,’’ they hollered in unison. The chanting brought a smile to the face of Gina Magana, who held a spring of burning sage. “It feels healing, the healing you get when you’re coming together as a community,’’ said Magana, who was one of the primary organizers of the “Houston Stands for Standing Rock’’ protest.
This kind of large-scale social activism is unprecedented during Super Bowl week, but not too surprising given this week’s media hype in the run-up to the big game was as much about President Trump’s controversial policies and style as it was the game itself.
The media was constantly asking New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and coach Bill Belichick about their famously close relationship with Trump.
The protesters, however, definitely expressed themselves and their feelings loudly.
Of note, the anti-Trump protests kicked off five hours ahead of Super Bowl LI.
Authorities note that close to 500 people gathered for a march starting at Hermann Park. The crowd had doubled in size to at least 1000 an hour later. At one point the crowd began to chant: “Hey, hey, ho, ho, Donald Trump has got to go.”
However, 15 police officers on horseback were lined up barely five yards away, and a police helicopter circled above.
