On Friday, President Donald Trump issued an executive order that would ban immigration from seven nations. This included 200-300 immigrants living in American with green cards or visas who were traveling abroad, and inconvenienced when they were unable to re-enter the U.S. Millions of Americans were outraged by the Trump administration’s action. Ivanka Trump was slammed the next day when instead of commenting on the situation, she posted a photo of herself wearing a $5,000 dress.
The First Daughter is facing a backlash from people who felt her poorly-timed glamor shot showed she was ‘tone-deaf’ to her father’s actions. The photo shows Ivanka in an expensive silver gown, smiling along-side her husband, Jared Kushner, who is looking dapper in his tuxedo. Critics say it’s ‘sickening’ that Ms. Trump and Mr. Kushner have so easily overlooked the plight of detained immigrants, especially considering they are both acting in the capacity of advisors to the president.
One political strategist says that the picture might not have been a flippant, insensitive post after all. He suggests that it was a strategic move on the part of Ivanka.

“The dress picture says ‘I don’t necessarily want to be associated or aligned with the Trump administration,'” suggests Eric Schiffer.

Schiffer is well acquainted with ‘damage control’ publicity; he’s the CEO of Reputation Management Consultants. The company works with other companies to help overcome crises.
“[The photo] shows that she is doing things that are asynchronistic, or not connected to Trump’s actions,” added Schiffer.
Ivanka has turned over her company while she’ll be a working First Daughter in Washington, however, in the past she’s sought to distance herself from her father’s politics. During the election in November, she nixed an ad campaign that would have promoted her father for president. She felt, at the time, that such an ad might be detrimental to her business. She was already getting a lot of heat just by association to the unpopular candidate, now unpopular POTUS.
Even though she’s turned over control, Ivanka Trump’s brand could still be in danger. Pressure is being put on major high-end department stores, such as Macy’s and Nordstrom, to drop her lines.
“I think she is benefitting from the immense glamor that bestows presidents and their families,” said Schiffer. “Fashion that is worn by anyone that is tied to the White House is always going to be hot fashion — no matter the politics.”
