Teen Saves Girl From Fire & Disappears—65 Yrs Later, His Neighbor Breaks the News: “I’m the Little Girl”

It was December 20, 1951—a day that would be seared in Kip Malone’s memory forever.

He was on his way to a store in Newfoundland to purchase some butter, but what started as a grocery mission for his mother quickly turned into a life-saving mission for this brave young man.

Kip suddenly heard a grandma screaming “Save the children!” at the top of her lungs. He quickly looked up and saw the woman frantically waving from the top floor of a home that was engulfed in flames.

So thick with smoke that he could hardly see his own hands, Kip entered the treacherous, blazing building without a second thought. He found a frightened 5-year-old girl and tried to pull her out, but she refused to go anywhere without her little sister.

With the 3-year-old nowhere to be found and running low on oxygen, Kip was tempted to flee the house with the resistant 5-year-old in hand—but something just wouldn’t let him leave.

Finally, after swiping his hand under one of the bed frames in a random room, he found the petrified toddler.

Kip brought the sisters outside and got them to safety, and then he left—never to be seen by them again. They never even got the chance to thank their hero.

As the years passed, Kip never forgot about the precious angels he saved that day.

He wasn’t aware that the fire ended up killing their grandma, or that the family never talked about that horrific day again because it was simply too tragic and painful.

“There was a lot of years I wondered what became of the two little girls,” said Kip.

After moving to Ontario to raise his family, he and his wife decided to move back to Newfoundland 65 years later.

Not long after Kip moved in, his new neighbor came knocking on his door to introduce herself. Her name was Margaret Fowler.

As the two started to strike up conversation like old friends, they realized they grew up only one street away from each other. It was then that Kip told Margaret the story of the 1951 house fire.

“She just looked at me and nearly fainted,” said Kip.

As the color drained from her face, she replied, “I’m the little girl.”

The two could hardly believe the serendipitous moment they were in. It was truly an act of God that they had found one another.

“It’s a miracle as far as I’m concerned,” said Margaret’s younger sister, Barbara, who also got the chance to reunite with Kip.

As for Margaret, she agrees that there was only one explanation for this blessed reunion:

“It was definitely divine intervention, and God works in wonderful, wonderful ways.
