TRUMP’S LATEST EXECUTIVE ORDER SUGGESTS HE WANTS TO FOCUS ON STRENGTHENING THE MILITARY

The Trump administration continues to move at a frenetic pace, and the media itself is starting to have a hard time keeping up with all of the news. There have been a wave of executive orders signed by President Donald Trump, and there is no indication that the pace will be slowing down anytime soon.

As USA Today reports, one of the next orders in the pipeline could be geared towards the military. Specifically, a draft of an executive order is rumored to instruct the Pentagon to increase both the size and strength of our nation’s military. In essence, the order will instruct new Defense Secretary James Mattis to review overall military readiness within the next month.

Additionally, special attention will be given to the current fight against the Islamic State, as well as recommendations for ramping up those efforts. Eliminating ISIS was a crucial talking point for Trump up and down the campaign trail, and as we’ve seen from his first few days in office, he takes the promises he made quite seriously.

He also made special mention of the military during his inaugural address, noting that the country has “subsidized the armies of other countries while allowing the sad depletion of our military.” It certainly sounds like Trump’s executive action aims to stop that. Among the items the draft order reportedly touches on are boosting missile defense, strengthening cyber security, the modernization of nuclear weapons, and the enhancing of cyber warfare capabilities.

Supporters of an enhanced military will undoubtedly be enthused by the news, but detractors that feel too much of our national budget is already geared to military spending will be up in arms. In short, this will be yet another round in the endless debate over Trump administration policies, and it certainly seems like we’re in for a long four years on the heated exchange front.
