VIDEO: Son Records Saddest Moment In His Life When Mom Forgets One Word

Losing a loved one is beyond difficult on so many levels, and for many people that single experience can be devastatingly hard when the loved one is living with dementia. A 45-year-old man from Dublin, Ohio actually recorded the heart-wrenching moment his beloved mother forgot one word, and it is beyond heartbreaking.

Joey Daley has been documenting the decline of his mother’s condition in videos for quite some time. According to a report by Daily Mail, Molly Daley was diagnosed with a condition known as Lewy Body Dementia when she was 65-years-old. Molly is now 67 and lives in a nursing home, where she can no longer take her own medication or bathe herself.

In his most recent video, her son fights to keep from crying as he asks her to remember certain family members. The expression on his face is unbelievably painful as he realizes that his mother no longer knows who he is.

It was during a trip to a local shopping mall that Joey Daley restarted the conversation he had so often had with his mother to see what she could remember.

He asked: ‘So you weren’t sure who my dad was. Do you know who my mom is?’

To that, she replied: ‘No…I guess I don’t know. Who is that?

‘My mom? You don’t know who my mom is?’ he asked.

‘I have to think about it…tell me.’

‘I’m Joey. Who’s my mom?’

‘I don’t know. What is it?’

‘You are.’

‘That’s what I thought.’

Molly then asked, ‘say that again, who your mom is?’

He replied, ‘who’s my mom?’

‘I don’t know.’

‘Who am I?’

‘I don’t know.’

Fighting back emotions, Joey said: ‘Don’t I look familiar?’

In the saddest reply, she said: ‘I don’t know. I think so.’

The video is beyond heartbreaking to watch:

Before he ended the video Joey said, “This day I will never forget. When your mother doesn’t know who you are, she knows my name but doesn’t know who I am.” He added, “I tried so hard to get her to say who I was…but she just doesn’t know. I feel like she just died. I wasn’t expecting this.”

In a statement to MailOnline, Joey said that the visits to his mother were “draining” and that putting the video series out on-line had “consumed his life.”

According to Health Correspondent, Mia de Graaf, Lewy Body Dementia is the second most common form of degenerative dementia after Alzheimer’s. Victims of this disease may experience specific physical side effects after memory loss begins due to the way it attacks the part of the brain that controls vision.
