CVS Responds To Greedy CEO Raising EpiPen By 450% By Offering Them For 1/6th The Price

The Woonsocket, RI-based pharmacy giant, CVS, is now selling a rival, generic version of Mylan’s EpiPen that is priced at only one-sixth of the other medicine’s price. Because the maker of the life-saving allergy treatment increased the prices by about 450 percent, they were gutted before Congress.

Because Mylan’s EpiPens cost more than $600 in most places, CVS announced that it will charge just $109.99 for a two-pack of this life-saving medication for the authorized generic version of Adrenaclick, which offers much the same treatment as an EpiPen.

CVS announced their intention to provide an affordable solution and now people around the country are praying Mylan takes a big hit…

“Patients with life-threatening allergies need immediate access to injectable epinephrine,” CVS wrote in a statement about their new product. “But over time, the brand-name epinephrine auto-injector pens that make it easy to quickly and safely administer the medication have become increasingly expensive.

CVS was determined to find a way to provide their customers with a cheaper alternative because these epinephrine injections can save lives.

“We recognized the urgent need for a less-expensive epinephrine auto-injector, and are proud to offer a low-cost option at all CVS Pharmacy locations. Patients can now purchase the authorized generic for Adrenaclick® at a cash price of $109.99 for a two-pack – the lowest cash price in the market. This authorized generic is a Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved device with the same active ingredient as other epinephrine auto-injector devices.”

Because the price gouging made headlines back in the summer, CVS’s new product was announced to the cheers and applause of parents and teachers around the country.

The life-saving syringes are filled with the hormone epinephrine. This expires after about a year, which forced parents to shell out another $600 for the emergency life saver. But now that CVS has created an alternative, parents are happy.

Because Mylan was embarrassed before the country, they have since released a two-pack priced at about $300 trying to offer a financially savvy solution. But CVS beat did them one better.

How do you get the lowest-cost epinephrine auto-injector? Follow these CVS instructions:

“First, the patient should speak with his or her prescriber about whether the authorized generic for Adrenaclick is a good fit for their specific medical needs. The prescriber can then write a prescription for an “epinephrine auto-injector” to ensure the lowest–cost product is filled. Patients who already have a prescription on file with CVS Pharmacy can ask their pharmacist to check with the prescriber about making the change.”

President-elect Trump applauds CVS’s move to provide a lower cost solution to help families who have people with allergeries.

In reference to Mylan, which charged outrageous prices for their life-saving medications, Trump said: “They’re getting away with murder.”

Helena Foulkes, president of CVS Pharmacy, a division of CVS Health, listened to customers when they said they were worried about the rising prices of EpiPens.

“Our focus has always been on finding solutions for patients first and foremost,”Foulkes said. “The best thing that can happen to keep drug prices low is to have a lot of competition in the marketplace.”
