A Texas man who brutally sexually assaulted a 1-year-old girl was arrested and charged with super aggravated sexual assault of a child. If convicted, the maximum sentence for the crime is 20 years. His girlfriend has been charged with serious bodily for waiting hours to call 911 after noticing the child was injured.
Isaac Cardenas, 23, was bored one night, so he mutilated the genitals of his girlfriend’s 21-month-old relative. Crystal Herrera, 22, who is related to the girl in a way that has not been specified by police, noticed the girl was bleeding, but waited several hours before calling police.
Cardenas told police that the tot wandered out of the home in the middle of the night and were attacked by dogs. The girl’s injuries were not consistent with the story. Doctors confirmed that the injuries were more consistent with knife stabs than dog wounds.

The child had been stabbed multiple times in her genitals and upper body. Doctors says her condition was stabilized several days after the attack, but she’ll suffer from life-long injuries.

“You can’t even imagine what would possess somebody to do something like this to anyone, much less an innocent child that’s totally defenseless,” said Sheriff Javier Salazar.
