HOMELESS STUDENT HELPED BY SCHOOL PRESIDENT, THEN THINGS TAKE AN UNEXPECTED TURN

Brian Carroll has been campus president at Vatterott College in Kansas City, Missouri for the past five years, but he suddenly finds himself without a job. As Fox 4 KC reports, he was let go after offering shelter to a homeless student when the temperature dipped below zero.

On January 6th, temperatures in the areas were projected to hit four degrees below zero overnight. Carroll was aware that one of his students had been sleeping in the wooded area by the school and had no place to go, so he let the student hole up in the library.

“I just didn’t want to take the chance. We had ice and snow. I had a tough choice to make. He can’t stay on campus. I can’t put him in my car. I can’t take him to my house,” Carroll said.

The student is noted for being schizophrenic, but no damage was done to the school while he stayed inside. Regardless, school officials were none too pleased when they discovered Carroll’s decision via surveillance footage, and they relieved him of his duties.

“I made a choice. I was choosing between life — I’m not from here. I’m from Southern California. I’m not sure if I could live in the woods at minus two degrees,” he said.
