TEEN APPLIES FOR COLLEGES ONLY TO DISCOVER HE'S BEEN MISSING FOR 13 YEARS

A young man from Alabama who lived with his father since age five was graduating high school. Like many kids, he applied for college. The college had some bad news for him: he’d been kidnapped.

Julian Hernandez was snatched from his mother in 2002 by his non-custodial father, Bobby Hernandez. After abducting him, the father and son seemingly vanished. Hernandez’s mother searched for him for 13 years, but investigators were never able to find any leads.

Hernandez, now 18, applied for college and was told his social security number didn’t match his name. When someone at the school tried to help the young man by running a background check, she got a note that he was listed as a missing person with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

The young man has been reunited with his mother, who is beyond relieved to have her son back. “Our family was overjoyed this week to locate Julian and learn that he is safe. We want to thank everyone for their prayers and support during Julian’s disappearance,” said a statement released by the family.

Bobby Hernandez was arrested and extradited back to Alabama. He’s facing up to 10 years in prison if convicted.
