If you’ve ever went scuba diving or snorkeling, then you’ve seen the chaos of life living just beneath the surface of the water. If not, perhaps you’ve seen the numerous photos and videos we have shared of strange, alien-like creatures who call the ocean their home.
While I may never get used to the idea that something could be lurking beneath the water with the intention of hurting me, if I had a fish tank, I would expect to know everything in it. I did plan and create the enclosure after all.

At the start of the viral video included below, you’ll see the pet owner reach into the tank and grab something with his pair of claws. Immediately, a large worm appears from underneath a coral-like object and begins speeding away.
While the fish tank owner watches and films, the person’s friends can be heard talking in the background about the strange, large bristle worm they just discovered hiding in the fish tank.
According to the video description he found the “Bristle Worm, Eunice Worm when breaking down my marine tank.” When he finally got out the tape measure it “measured about 1.2m long.”
The owner went on to explain more about the Eunice worm and how he first discovered its existence in his tank.
“I was breaking down the tank (as I was moving it), hence it looking shoddy. That unice was in there 2 years before I noticed, and only noticed because I had whole coral colonies missing after a single evening.
“I first saw it after I spent a few nights sat up (after lights went out) for about 3 hours per night looking for the critter who was eating my corals. Even when I knew it was there, I only ever saw it 3 times within the space of a year. It hides in the rocks, and only comes out at night, impossible to catch without taking everything out the tank.”
One viewer corrected the video and said it was actually a bobbit worm. These are predator creatures that live on the ocean floor and ambush their prey.
Viewers like you shared their shocked reactions to the giant worm:
“I know its underwater but I still think we need to figure out how to kill it with fire.”
“funny thing is by chopping it’s tail off you only made another one.”
“Uh… how did it get in the tank in the first place? You didn’t know it was in there?” one user, who wasn’t afraid to ask what was on everyone’s mind.
What would you do if this creature was in your fish tank?
