Simon Smugly Instructs The Contestant To Sing ‘Hallelujah’ – He Leaves All 4 Judges Speechless

Remember when Lee DeWyze was on American Idol? The Canadian had been expelled from high school and was working as a paint salesman when he headed over to an audition, and the rest was history.

DeWyze sang ‘Aint No Sunshine,’ the bluesy 1971 classic by Bill Withers, and from the moment he opened his mouth it was clear he was going to be a contender. The shining moment for DeWyze came, however, when Simon Cowell challenged him to sing a song.

Judge Cowell sent DeWyze the message to sing ‘Hallelujah’ by Leonard Cohen. His soulful voice added something magical to the tune.

DeWyze, of course, went on to win the 2010 season of American Idol and his career has been going strong every since. But if you’re looking for a great musical throwback, check out his version of ‘Halleluiah,’ and be sure to thank Simon Cowell for it.
