Police in Ohio are warning parents about a scary type of candy appearing in trick-or-treat bags this Halloween.
WKYC reports that police in Wakeman, Ohio, are notifying parents about ‘very suspicious’ Halloween candy that’s been spotted in the area. The warning pertains to a particular type of candy — Lemonheads — and claims that there have been instances of the packages being slightly opened, creating a potential for the candy itself to have been tampered with.

Wakeman Police posted the warning to their Facebook page:
CAUTION:
It was brought [to] our attention by a couple people that some candy passed out in town today is very suspicious. If you and your children have Lemonheads from trick or treating today please double check them. There are multiple instances of the packages being opened slightly and the candy itself looking [distorted]. Please check all candy before letting anyone eat it!
The post has been shared hundreds of times, with users commenting on the frightening reality. One user wrote, “You never know if it’s tampered with if it’s opened, that said, lemon heads melt and distort anyways, but better safe then sorry.”
Another added, “My children got some like this yesterday. It’s most likely a manufacturing defect but I threw them out to err on the side of caution.”
At this point, it is impossible to tell if the open packages are a result of shoddy manufacturing or tampering.
