A picture posted to Reddit features a judge wearing a hat on the job. That might not have ordinarily been a problem if it weren’t for the fact that the hat is a symbol making a political statement. Investigative reporters checked around and found there were no reasons the judge couldn’t wear her hat, however, others question whether it’s wise for an elected official to make that choice.
The pink hat with cat-like ears was made famous during the women’s march in Washington D.C. two weeks ago that protested the inauguration of President Donald Trump. It’s better known as the ‘p-ssy hat’ or the ‘vagina hat’, and is a symbol of a pro-choice political stance.

Travis County Judge Sarah Eckhardt was featured in a video clip wearing the hat. She fusses with it, claiming she needs to ‘Get my cat ears going here’. The Texas judge is a supporter of the women’s marches and rallies around the country.

Eckhardt wore the hat in honor of the ‘Abortion is Healthcare Resolution’, a resolution that states that the right to abortion is essential to every woman’s health care plan.
“[C]ould you expect to have a fair trial especially as a man if you saw this?” one twitter user commented on the image.
“No matter your political leaning, there is no place for them in the courtroom,” another woman said.
“So, I’ve done jury duty & was given strict dress rules but it’s okay for a female judge to wear a p-ssy?” said another.
As it turns out, the judge is allowed to wear the hat on the bench. “KVUE’s Jason Puckett reached out to multiple county departments to verify that this behavior was acceptable and found that almost every source he spoke with agreed – Eckhardt is in the clear,” said an ABC News affiliate.
Apparently, the county authorities haven’t received any complaints about the hat.
