Most of us have had the unfortunate experience of finding a spider lurking in our houses or hanging out somewhere in our general vicinity. Even if you’re not the type to have a breakdown at the sight of a spider, the shadows of their legs are enough to induce some serious nightmares… And the process of moving them outside your home isn’t so fun.
Now imagine moving a spider that’s the size of a lap dog.

Arachnophobes, brace yourselves — and meet Charlotte! The MASSIVE huntsman spider was discovered near an animal rescue farm in Australia’s Brisbane Valley.
Barnyard Betty’s Rescue, a sanctuary for orphaned and mistreated farm animals in Queensland, Australia, posted photos of the giant huntsman spider to its Facebook page.
The photos, while taken in October of last year, have just recently gone viral, receiving over 6,000 reactions.
Charlotte’s rescuer, who released her shortly after the photos were taken, hopes that people can look past their fears and try to appreciate the creatures for what they truly are:
She was a beautiful, calm spider, not aggressive in any way and like most spiders she just wanted to go about her business eating bugs and living in peace. She didn’t or doesn’t need to be killed! Poor spiders are so misunderstood!
Just take a minute to appreciate Charlotte’s size — which happens to be unusual for huntsman spiders.
While huntsman bites aren’t actually dangerous, the terrifying appearance is enough to make the spiders off-putting to humans.
Commenters seemed to be pretty freaked out by Charlotte.
And not everyone was in awe of the creature’s beauty.
People had to wonder: what exactly did this boat-sized spider need rescuing from?
Despite getting some Internet hate, Charlotte has served her rescuing organization well — her viral fame scored Barnyard Betty’s Rescue plenty of new Facebook likes, and even some funding.
Hopefully, they’ll be able to take in plenty more innocent, photogenic and terrifying creatures in the future!
