Conjoined twins, also known as ‘Siamese twins,’ are very rare. Mackenzie and Macy Garrison were especially rare. The conjoined sisters were born bound at the pelvis and shared one leg. They also shared a womb with a third sister: Madeline.
The Garrisons adopted three babies– two were conjoined twins, and one more baby rounded out the triplets. The girls’ birth parents were drug addicts and their biological mother had not seen a doctor at all during the pregnancy, so just the fact that they survived birth was a miracle in itself.
Separation surgery is a risky and complex business for many of these twins, but sometimes it’s their only chance for survival and a ‘normal’ life. Surgery was scary, but both twins survived.

Macy and Mackenzie thankfully beat the odds. Each girl has one leg and they rely on prosthetics, but it hardly slows them down. They can keep up with Madeline, as well as their three older brothers.

At 10 years old, Macy and Mackenzie are happy, healthy, active little girls. Thanks to modern medicine, a loving family, and the strength they give each other, the sisters managed to overcome a lot of obstacles and have a bright future ahead.
