If you thought the ‘Gerber Baby’ was cute when she was a baby, you should see what she looks like now. She’s 90-years-old and beautiful.
The ‘Gerber Baby’ is probably the most famous face in American history. Her face has adorned the popular baby food products since 1928. Gerber held a contest to find the face of their product for an advertising campaign. They found one, and they’ve been using it ever since!
That face belongs to 4-month-old Ann Turner Cook, who is now a retired English teacher and mystery novelist. For more than 40 years, Gerber refused to admit who the little tyke on the jar really was, but since 1978 the cat has been out of the bag.

Cook ended up on the jar because artist Dorothy Hope Smith drew her portrait and entered the Gerber contest with it. Judges just fell in love with the bright-eyed, tousle-haired little baby face.

That was Cook’s one modeling gig, but she gives all the credit to Smith for her drawing. “I think she captured an image of a happy, healthy baby, and I think that’s exactly what all mothers hope that their babies will be. And I think she was only paid about $300 for the drawing.”
Gerber got a real bargain.
