MOUNTAIN LION SET FREE AFTER BEING CHAINED UP FOR ITS ENTIRE LIFE (VIDEO)

Some 20 years ago, an illegal circus in Peru captured a mountain lion. The lion spent most of his life being lugged around the country, chained up on the back of an old pickup truck. After two decades of abuse and cruel captivity, the mountain lion was finally rescued.

The lion, affectionately named Mufasa, was kept in bondage so that visitors could pay a few cents to stare at him. Peru banned wild animal circuses, and this one was finally tracked down by authorities.

The Animal Defenders International came to his rescue, releasing him from his chains for the first time in years. The animal seems surprised when they’re cut off him.

Mufasa got up and walked cautiously around the small temporary cage they put him in. They provided him with plenty of comfortable straw and he cuddled up in it for the long journey.

Though it would have been nice if Mufasa could have been released back into the wild, age and health problems, such as kidney failure, that the animal suffered from the years of abuse made it impossible. ADI brought Mufasa to an enclosure in a forest sanctuary. The mountain lion lived out his last few months in peace and comfort.

For those few months, the rescue efforts were 100% worth it.
