Hairdresser Mary Thomaston’s six-year-old daughter Lyra was pretty insistent on the fact that she wanted rainbow hair, so mom finally gave in and dyed her daughter’s hair the desired shade. As Little Things explains, neither mother or daughter was prepared for the backlash.
Thomaston uploaded some photos of her daughter’s new do on Instagram, and the haters came out in full force.
“Sometimes we forget they’re little and not a little doll,” shared one commenter.

Needless to say, Thomasaton was pretty taken aback that the commenters were directing their anger in her direction. Worse yet, they were insulting a child in the process. After getting her thoughts together, she decided to fire a post back in their direction.

“I am not sure how you are raising your children, but keep your unwelcome opinions to yourself in regards to my child rearing. You do not like blue, cool, say so. You don’t like rainbow hair, cool, say that. These things are opinions you are entitled to, your disrespectful comments about my child are not,” she wrote.
