No matter which judge President Trump selects for the Supreme Court, Democrats will refuse to approve the nominee, Mike Huckabee predicted Monday.
“I think he could name Jesus Christ and he would still have a fight,” the former Arkansas governor remarked on Fox News. “This is not about who he appoints or what he does. This is about what the Democrats have decided to dig in their heels and to engage in what they are calling total resistance. Resist everything.”
According to Newsmax, Huckabee suggested Democrats could regret blocking the immigration reforms, which would temporarily bar refugees as well as immigrants from seven Islamic countries. “I think people would rather see a few folks … inconvenienced for a few hours, than if they had to see a long line of body bags and toe tags from people killed by terrorism,” Huckabee said. “We don’t want to become like the rest of the world, specifically Europe.”

The ex-governor, an ordained Baptist minister who has twice sought the Republican presidential nomination, claimed the Obama administration also acknowledged that terrorists could come from the seven nations (Iran, Iraq, Syria, Ethiopia, Sudan, Libya and Somalia). Huckabee pointed out that “the only country mentioned” by Trump was Syria.

Huckabee criticized GOP Sen. John McCain of Arizona, who chairs the Senate Armed Services Committee, for his comments about the executive action during a Sunday interview on “Meet the Press.” The senator warned that banning immigrants could help militant groups like ISIS recruit terrorists.
“Sen. McCain probably voted for this order that did name seven countries in 2015 and reiterated in 2016,” Huckabee said. “This whole thing is a speed bump, not a stop sign, but it is based on something the previous administration did. It is just that President Trump is getting a lot more attention for it, particularly from all the folks who are shedding big crocodile tears on the award shows out of Hollywood.”
The former governor praised the president for not waiting to put the new regulations in place. “If you said in another seven days we’ll implement a policy, for seven days you’ll have people flooding the borders and doing everything they can to get in, saying the window is closing,” Huckabee said. “The only way to implement something like this and be serious about it is to do it quickly and abruptly. That’s what the president did.”
