CONSTRUCTION WORKERS COULDN’T BELIEVE WHAT THEY DUG UP AT THEIR WORKSITE (PHOTOS)

Some construction workers in Boston were busy working on a giant office building complex, and it seemed like work would go on as usual. As they dug deep into the ground, they unearth something completely unexpected.

Workers from the Skanska company were in the process of a development project when they found a 50-foot-long ship buried in the ground. The ship looks like it was transporting lime, and is thought to have been wrecked sometime in the mid to late 1800s.

A lot of theories have been floating around about how the ship got wrecked so far from the shore. Some speculate the ship ran aground in a storm. Somehow it ended up 25 feet below the surface.

“This is the first shipwreck that I know of in Boston discovered in filled land. This is the largest and most significant by far,” said Joe Bagley, a local archeologist.

“You certainly come across a lot of interesting things when you do below-grade excavation, but I’ve never seen anything like this in my career. I can say in my entire career I’ve never come across an artifact,” said Shawn Hurley, CEO of the construction company.

The company has decided to halt the building so they can excavate the ship properly. They’re not legally required to do so, but this exciting find is just too tempting to bury under an office complex.
