Bad decisions will often follow when someone is completely broke, and the risk of that happening becomes even more prevalent when the broke person happens to be pretty young. As Shareably shares, this teen from Fremont, California offers evidence that the line into bad decisions simply doesn’t need to be crossed – regardless of personal circumstances.
Tommy O’Connor is a senior at Irvington High School, and he happened across a wallet on the ground by a local convenience store. The wallet was filled to the brim with cash – $2,300 to be exact – but Tommy knew exactly what he should do. He alerted a teacher’s aide, and they were able to track down the wallet’s rightful owner.
“I didn’t count it when I saw it. I just thought it was probably someone’s rent or something,” he explains.

To make Tommy’s good deed all the more impressive, the teen and his family are struggling through some tough financial times at the moment. In fact, he didn’t even have enough money to purchase lunch the day before. The grateful wallet owner, who turned out to be a military veteran, rewarded him with $50 for his troubles.
