Is there a certain time you wake up every day, or perhaps every night? According to Eastern medicine, interrupted sleep can point to certain health problems. If you can’t seem to get through the night without stirring at certain times, here’s what might be the problem.
Practitioners of Chinese medicine have always posed the theory that the body focuses its energy on different organs throughout the day and night. If your sleep is disturbed at a certain hour, it means (according to this form of alternative medicine) that there’s a problem with the organ that the body would be focusing on in that hour.
If you have trouble sleeping from 9 pm to 11 pm, the problem may be your endocrine system. Your metabolism or hormones might be out of balance. You might want to reconsider your diet and start eating more nutritious foods.

From 11 pm to 1 am, the body’s energy turns yang. Yang is the active energy that our body will need to be refilled for the next day. If you’re waking up at this time, you’re too stressed out. You need to calm down and learn how to relax so you can preserve your energy for the following day.

From 1 am and 3 am, the body is busy detoxifying. If you wake up at this time consistently, it could be your liver. You need to get rid of the toxins in the body. This is not only physical toxins, but spiritual toxins, such as anger and a bad attitude.
If you’re waking up during 3 am to 5 am, your lungs might be an issue. They say the lungs at that hour are filling the body with nourishing oxygen and replenishing themselves. Waking at this hour indicates you may need to begin practicing some daily breathing exercises.
Your large intestines are doing their job from 5 to 7 am. Waking up means you probably need a bowel movement. Drink more water throughout the day and you should be fine.
Of course, if you’re waking at this hour, it could also just be the alarm clock telling you that it’s time to go to work. Always take these kinds of medical claims with a grain of salt, but you never know. There may be something that keeps these old bits of wisdom alive.
