PUTIN: TRUMP 'CONFIRMED HE IS WILLING TO NORMALIZE RUSSIAN-AMERICAN RELATIONS'

Donald Trump has already reached out to Vladimir Putin, suggesting he wants to improve the relationship between the United States and its long-time adversary, the Russian president revealed on Sunday.

According to Thomson/Reuters, Putin announced: “The president-elect confirmed he is willing to normalize Russian-American relations. I told him the same. We did not discuss where and when we would meet.” The Russian leader also reportedly said he is open to meeting with President Obama in Moscow.

Trump has come under fire from his critics for praising Putin, and calling him a “stronger leader” than Obama. Some members of the president-elect’s campaign staff had links to Russia, and Trump has done business in the country. Putin, as well as many other Russians, celebrated the real-estate tycoon’s victory over Hillary Clinton. They viewed her as a greater threat to them, according to multiple news sources.

Thomson/Reuters reported that on Sunday, following the conclusion of the APEC summit in Lima, Peru, Putin said his country is willing to maintain its current level of oil production. The Russian leader told reporters that he had thanked Obama “for the years of joint work.” He recalled: “I told him that we would be happy to see him in Russia anytime if he wants, can and has desire.”
